1. Introduction
Decommissioning is an international and interregional problem because it concerns transboundary issues. Within the framework of MAGATE, the network IDN has been created.
But in each country there is also need for a solution for interregional solutions for dealing with waste. Often a national repository is proposed, but experience has been complex.
Transfer from one region to another has been challenging. National legislation is necessary. In the US, spent nuclear waste has become the prerogative of national legislation. There is the example of the Texas Vermont Compact Commission. In Russia's Zheleznogorsk, a national repository and another 30 regional sites for low-level waste have been proposed. Discussion of this problem took place at the Round Table.
This topic describes the need for international cooperation, and collaboration among authorities at all levels in order to ensure equal standards of safety during decommissioning and handling of RW and SNF. National and regional authorities, the operators of nuclear facilities, and the public all play a critical role.
